AUTHOR

new territory

There is no one that you remind me of
so new are all the thoughts your presence brings
I even fear sometimes to call it love
so heretofore unknown I find these things

No perfect future grows when you are near
no toil besets my soul  like labor's woes
and in my sleeping's talk I sometimes hear
the warning that I go where no one goes

And yet I wake with open eyes and mind
and see my fading dreams in constant light
and feel that peace leaves all behind
that would not hold its form devoid of night

It matters less the time that I might spend
reweaving every word that I might say
than knowing that my heart somewhere depends
less on forgotten night than blemished day

Refreshed am I myself to tell
that sometimes in a day beset by fear
my restless heart upon you dwells
and in it finds you sweet and constant near
