I've got so much paying work right now that I barely have the energy to take a bath, much less work on South of Nowhere. Writing is really work for me -- it's much harder than the other things I've done with my time over the last half-century. I can draw construction details in my sleep, but writing takes real mental effort that I'm not used to expending. I'm used to doing most things with half my brain held in reserve (the good half, sometimes). It's kind of scary to not be able to write that way -- I worry that maybe it means I'm not really a writer. On the other hand, I wasn't born an architect, either.
