it's come to this

I've been wearing the same clothes (asleep and awake, if you're wondering) for three days, but the storyline of Nine Days is now hitting on all cylinders. Turns out that the secret is not putting more stuff in, it's taking stuff out. Which, when y'all read the book, you'll boggle at, considering the sheer volume of stuff that's still there.

Unfortunately, the completion of my 129-page Narrative Summary is only the opening salvo in the slaughterfest that will be rewrite number 4/5. It's a good thing I enjoy doing this shit.

Speaking of slaughterfests, did everybody see the Olympic biathlon last night? Where the hell were the Finns?

  1. Here's a annoying quote that triggers a migraine every time I read it. From 'The Writer's Little Helper,' by James V Smith, Jr. 'Writing is way over-rated. Revise and edit until you're sweating bullets, until your tenth draft finally begins to read like an effortless first draft. Then cut it in half.' Rewriting is synonymous with cut, cut, cut. Hell, Elmore Leonard's #10 - If it sounds like writing, rewrite it. Yep, just writing this, DAMN, I can feel the pain coming...

  2. Another nauseating quote from the above mentioned book, 'Every time my computer has ever crashed in the middle of writing an unsaved scene, and I had to rewrite it all from word one, it's turned out better.'

  3. Well, it's nice to know I'm doing it 'correctly,' anyway...
